Satin Spar Selenite Shell Carving on Gold Stand | ~29g
A shell carving in white satin spar selenite, mounted on a gold-toned display stand. Satin spar is a fibrous variety of gypsum — the parallel crystal fibres running through the stone create a natural chatoyancy, a silky moving sheen that shifts across the surface as the light changes. The shell form works well with this effect; the curved, ridged carving catches the light differently across each groove. Pieces are randomly selected from our current stock — each one is natural white to cream in tone.
Stone Facts:
- Satin spar is a fibrous variety of gypsum (CaSO₄·2H₂O), one of the softest commercially carved minerals at Mohs 2 — handle with care and keep dry, as gypsum is water soluble and will deteriorate with prolonged moisture exposure
- The silky optical effect is caused by light scattering along the parallel crystal fibres — the same mechanism behind chatoyancy in tiger's eye
- Gypsum forms in evaporite deposits, typically in sedimentary basins where ancient seas have evaporated and left mineral-rich layers behind
Traditional & Folklore Properties:
- Long associated with clarity, cleansing, and calm — a popular choice for bedroom and meditation spaces
- Traditionally used to clear stagnant energy from a space or from other crystals placed nearby
